| 17 | An 1847 court record in Rush County, IN lists the children of Margaret Elder as being Margaret Birge, Elizabeth Birge, Joseph Birge and Sarah Graves. [Source: Rush County, Indiana, Complete Record of Probate, Book #5 1846-1847, p.82 via Court Records of Rush County, Indiana 1822-1857 by Maurice Holmes, March 1975 viewed at Wisconsin Historical Society, Madison WI, 27 April 2001. (Call No. F532, R95, H59.)] (Full text of Holmes' entry in D.L. Sorby's files.) ] The 1850 US Census of Washington Township, Morgan County, Indiana lists Elizabeth Birge (age 11) and Sarah Graves (age 9) living with their Grandmother Barberry Elder, wife of James Elder (deceased). This information suggests that Sarah Graves, being the younger of the two daughters, is the product of a second marriage by Margaret Elder to an unknown Graves that must have occurred before/about 1840. If this hypothesis is correct, Robert Birge must either have died or the marriage was dissolved before 1840. This matter needs further study and proof. | Family: F1770
